The Sugar Sweet Blues Band, started as a vintage blues and jazz ensemble in March of 2008. The band pays homage to America's golden age of traditional Jazz, Blues, and Popular American song, covering decades of music from dixieland to Motown, and beyond. The group played regularly at JJ’s Blues in San Jose, Ca. for 6 years and was a dream come true for vocalist Suska Varda. The original lineup featured horn section: Ray DiFazio on baritone sax, Martin Rossip on tenor and clarinet, Kai on Cornet) Scott Miller on guitar, Dave Nordgren on bass, Scotty Griffin on drums, and the vocal stylings of Suska Varda and her mandolin and guitar. The diverse repertoire covers an array of old time jazz, rag, blues, tunes from the bayou, popular standards from the American songbook, rock and roll classics, reggae soul, and western swing numbers which take us on a caravan from San Jose to Spanish Harlem, St Louis, Santa Fe, San Antonio, Up on the Roof, Naches to Memphis, Under the Boardwalk, down in New Orleans, Kansas City, Gert Town, the Sunny Side of the Street, a farm out in Iowa, the Dock of the Bay, on a Slow boat to China, Blue Bayou, Rt 66, Philadelphia PA Baltimore and DC, New York City  back to Tulsa, south of the border, wherever the four winds blow, La Salle and Rampart Street, and the San Francisco Bay...

The Sugar Sweet Blues Band has appeared at JJ's Blues, Louisiana Roux, Gordon Biersch Breweries, Little Lou's Bar BQ, and Cafe Stritch in San Jose, Ca.
